THE CAST OF THE SHADOW GUARDIANS SERIES

With the Shadow Guardians series complete, I thought I’d share the cast and what I’ve been referring to for their aesthetics

LEILA

Character: Leila Belmonte
Story: Shadow Guardians series
Age: 17
Star sign: Leo
Strengths: determined, sees the best in people, care-free
Weaknesses: stubborn, unpredictable, always late
Loves: photography, bold patterns, her friends, finding side-quests and impossible missions (like finding the good in jerky jocks)
Hates: being controlled, judgement, junk food
Fave place: in Riley’s arms
Fave person: don’t you dare make her choose

Leila’s a bit scatterbrained and clumsy… until she wakes up one morning with a mysterious glowing mark on her arm. That changes everything for her. Our main girl carries the story throughout all four books, and while others play bigger roles as the story grows, it all comes down to her.

RILEY

Character: Riley Jansen
Story: Shadow Guardians series
Age: 17
Strengths: intelligent, smokin’ hot, caring
Weaknesses: controlling, sometimes too serious, Leila’s smile
Loves: reading, contemplating the best and safest course of action, all things supernatural
Hates: the Fallen, feeling desperate, Sebastian Weir
Fave place: by the lake
Fave person: Leila

Riley takes quite the journey over the four books. His character ARC was one of my favourites to write. I can’t say any more without giving anything away.

SADIE

Character: Sadie Sloan
Story: Shadow Guardians Series
Age: 17
Style: either classic and understated or all-out bohemian
Strengths: compassionate, loyal, adventurous
Weaknesses: gossip, boys with muscles, math
Loves: her friends, her bedroom aka sanctuary, Leila’s ideas
Hates: her small bones, decisions, people judging her
Fave place: her sanctuary
Fave person: Leila and Gabby, and maybe someone else...

Sadie doesn’t get much air-time in Ever Marked, well, apart from nearly being killed by a Fallen. But her story arc becomes front-and-centre in the following three books.

SEBASTIAN

Character: Sebastian Weir
Story: Shadow Guardians Series
Age: 18
Style: Better than yours
Strengths: protective, determined, and [redacted—too spoiler-y]
Weaknesses: arrogant, entitled, defiant, and [redacted, again, you’re just going to have to read and find out]
Loves: his little sister, gardening, riding his motorbike
Hates: his rusty old car, Riley, boring people
Fave place: Wouldn’t you like to know? (It’s his barn-turned-loft)
Fave person: Himself mostly, but will be known to care about a select few people

Everybody at school fawns over Sebastian, but it’s up for debate whether that’s because he’s super kind or if it’s because they’re afraid of him. Sebastian is the bad boy with a soft heart… he just takes a little time to warm up to, but by the end, I promise you’ll be in love.

REN

Character: Ren
Story: Shadow Guardians series
Age: who knows
Strengths: stoic, gorgeous, silken mohawk
Weaknesses: emotionless, following his sister around, doesn’t really knows who he is
Loves: his hair, food—of any kind… but mostly waffles
Hates: being underestimated, feeling oblivious
Fave place: Cedar Falls is all right
Fave person: May have found them in book 3

Ren is our stoic and quiet observer. But he holds secrets… a lot of them. By the end of the series, we will know exactly who he is and where he comes from, and the sacrifices he’d made. Will he get another chance to live the way he desires? And if he does, will he even remember what it is he might want?

DAMIEN

Character: Damien Morris
Story: Shadow Guardians Series
Age: 17
Style: Dark, or whatever might help him fade into the background
Strengths: intelligent, observant, loyal
Weaknesses: thinking that nobody would like the real him
Loves: all art forms, his siblings that no one knows about, and someone else he shouldn’t
Hates: being invisible, even though he does it to himself
Fave place: School, but not for the reasons you might think
Fave person: Again… it’s someone it shouldn’t be

Damien is a slow-burn favourite of mine. His ARC is probably the most dramatic. He starts off shy and withdrawn, and ends up… well, you just have to read and see.

GABBY

Character: Gabrielle Harper
Story: Shadow Guardians Series
Age: 17
Style: Cosy punk
Strengths: says what she thinks, secretly smart, doesn’t take shit
Weaknesses: she doesn’t know how to process her anger or guilt
Loves: dying her hair, shopping, tall women
Hates: her step-father…. and Riley
Fave place: School, to be away from home
Fave person: Leila and Sadie, her besties

Oh, Gabby. Our black sheep. She’s a lesson on what happens when your shadows take over. We still love her anyway.

And the others…

Kale & Kiko - Leila’s brother and his girlfriend, who become a mentor to Leila.
Taj- Leila’s other bestie, who has a penchant for Reece’s pieces and sneaky journalism.
Makoto, Tessa, Calice, Jamal - Another clan who may or may not be who they seem.
Summer and Imogen - Sadie and Sebastian’s rebellious younger sisters, who tend to always need saving
Mr Robertson - Their teacher, who’s sudden appearance change brings up a lot of questions.
Olive - Arrives in book 3 and shakes the heck out of everything, she’s quirky and innocent, with some crazy-ass powers
